When I was a kid, my favorite movie wasn't made by Disney or Nickelodeon. It was made by my family. It was our family tapes.

Simple, everyday moments on VHS — filmed at 290 Sherrill Street, where our family gathered. My mom, my aunt, cousins laughing, my grandmother and great grandmother together. It felt like stepping into a time machine.

One of those tapes has the only video I've ever seen of my great grandmother. I wasn't even a thought at the time. But because someone recorded it, I still get to experience that moment.

A few years later, my grandmother gave me my first camera. I started recording everything.

It was never about the camera, the gear, or how it was shot. It was about how it felt.

That's my why. That's what Project 290 is all about.
